Delta GEMS

Introduced to the Bloomington-Normal community in 2005, our focus is developing strong, confident and respectful young ladies by striving to prepare them to take active roles in their success and in society at-large.  Delta GEMS provides the framework to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a CAN DO attitude.

Program Dates

The goals for Delta GEMS are:

  • To instill the need to excel academically;
  • To provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success;
  • To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures high school and beyond; and
  • To create compassionate, caring, and community minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.

Meeting monthly during the school year, each session focuses on one of the components:  Aha Moments, Socialization, Self-Awareness, Leadership Development through Service Advocacy, Disaster Preparedness, Skills for Success, Healthy Lifestyle Habits, Financial Preparation and Achievement, Educational Preparation, and Career Preparation.  Following a national curriculum, the topics within these components are designed to provide interactive lessons and activities that provide opportunities for self-reflection and individual growth, forming a road map for college and career planning.

Co-sponsored with the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal, our Delta GEMS participants have full access to the programs and services at the Club.   Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Delta ACADEMY

Catching the dreams . . . Delta Academy was created out of an urgent sense that bold action was needed to save our young females (ages 11-14) from the perils of academy failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures.
